Real Madrid boss Juande Ramos says former club Tottenham were more worried about money than results.
The ex-Spurs boss was sacked in October after the club's worst-ever start - two points from eight games.
But Ramos blames the summer sales of Dimitar Berbatov and Robbie Keane for the Londoners' plight.
He said: "The club sold Berbatov and Keane and everything went down. They preferred money ahead of competitiveness."
Ramos earned the club £30.75m by selling Berba to Manchester United and a further £20m by flogging strike partner Keane to Liverpool.
But despite winning the Carling Cup, the Spaniard was given just under a year by Daniel Levy before being replaced by Harry Redknapp in October.
Ramos added: "Of course I've not forgotten England. It was a short experience, but intense.
"To play and win the Carling Cup final in front of 90,000 fans at Wembley singing the national anthem and against a great team like Chelsea was extraordinary."
