Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho insists he can work with general manager Jorge Valdano. The pair have been at loggerheads over signings and Mourinho's tactics in recent weeks.
He said: "My relationship with Valdano is not what matters. What is important, however, is the one I hold with my players and vice versa.
"I offer press conferences when I want to, not when you [the press] want me to. I don't know how other clubs work, but where I work my assistants are there to work hard, learn and build a future, not hand out bibs.
"I like Karanka to have the opportunity to speak and to learn what a pre-match press conference is all about. Whether it is me or him, his words are my words. I am responsible for what he says. My assistants aren't here for anything less."
