Real Madrid boss Ancelotti delighted with 6-1 Galatasaray drubbing

Cristiano Ronaldo scored a hat-trick as Real Madrid made a mockery of the fierce reputation of Istanbul's Ali Sami Yen Stadium with a crushing 6-1 win over Galatasaray in their Champions League opener.

Isco hit Real's 33rd minute opener against the run of play but his goal sparked the visitors into life as they added two more from Karim Benzema and Ronaldo's first of the night.

Ronaldo netted his second in the 66th minute from a free-kick taken by Gareth Bale who had arrived as a substitute moments earlier, Benzema made it 5-0 on 81 minutes, and after Umut Bulut had grabbed a late consolation Ronaldo completed his hat-trick in injury time.

Real coach Carlo Ancelotti said: "The result does not reflect the match. It was difficult and in my opinion the Galatasaray had a great first half.

"We struggled, but after Isco's goal it was easier, we had more opportunities to counterattack. I think we started the match with a bit of a lack of confidence and did not show the right attitude to be able to control the play. We controlled things at the back and Galatasaray pressured well. But it is normal, it was the first Champions League match in a very tough stadium to play in. It was important to win the first match."
