Real Madrid board favour Arsenal's Wenger to succeed Mourinho

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is looming large on Real Madrid's radar. The Daily Express says they will step up their interest in Wenger if Jose Mourinho's El Clasico torture continues at the Nou Camp in April.

The Bernabeu board are casting covetous eyes towards Arsenal boss Wenger again as opinion in the Spanish capital turns against Jose Mourinho.

Although Real are in pole position for their first league title in four years and are in the last 16 of the Champions League, Mourinho has hit a brick wall in his attempts to wrest the balance of power from Barcelona.

Wenger, along with Germany coach Joachim Low, is on the shortlist of candidates seen as a replacement for The Special One.

Wenger, jeered by Gunners fans during last Sunday's home defeat by Manchester United, has a contract until 2014.
