Real Betis chief Lorenzo Serra Ferrer admits they were desperate to keep hold of Dani Ceballos over the summer.
However, he admits the offers for the Real Madrid midfielder became too intense.
Serra Ferrer stated: "It was the one thing that didn't go the right way for us.
"He was asked for by many important teams like Real Madrid, Barcelona, Juventus ... We all wanted Dani to stay, but we did not get him to do so."
He also stated a new deal would be waiting for Joaquin, with his current contract expiring at the end of this season.
"Joaquín is committed, he is a symbol and a great player, on and off the pitch. If his will is to continue at Betis, it is clear that he will continue."
