Danny Guthrie agreed to sign for Reading after manager Brian McDermott gatecrashed his honeymoon!

The midfielder was in Dubai with new bride Rebecca in June, having just left Newcastle United after a five-year spell.

He knew a number of clubs were interested in his services and was left in no doubt who were the keenest when Royals boss Brian McDermott jetted out to try to clinch a deal.

Guthrie says now: "I was fine with it. Once I met him and listened to what he wanted to do it was a case of signing the papers.

"It was a nice gesture and it showed a bit of intent."
