Gunnar Thorvaldsson is close to completing a loan move to Championship strugglers Reading. The Iceland international striker, who currently plays for Danish side Esbjerg, has been a long-term target for the Royals and has recently been training with the club.

"We have an agreement on Thorvaldsson coming in," Reading's director of football Nick Hammond told the club's official website.

"He has spent some time here and did well. He will give us a slightly different option to what we have already."

The deal is expected to be completed next Monday.
