Reading secure QPR's Connolly on loan

Reading have made their third signing within a week with news that QPR's Matthew Connolly has joined on loan.

The 24-year old defender has arrived at the Madejski Stadium for the remainder of the season and Royals boss Brian McDermott is looking forward to having the versatile former Arsenal youth at his disposal.

"He can play anywhere in the back four and we think this is a really good signing," he told the club's official website.

"He's played a number of games in the Premier League this year and played more than 30 times with Kaspars [Gorkss, former QPR defender who also joined Reading] last year.

"I remember him as a youngster at Arsenal, Bournemouth, he's been a utility player and he's just the job at 24."

Connolly joins former Blackburn Rovers striker Jason Roberts and ex-Derby County midfielder Tomasz Cywka who both signed permanent deals last week.
