Reading's Harte: I turned down chance to return to Leeds United

Reading veteran Ian Harte has revealed he rejected overtures from former club Leeds United before signing a new Royals deal.

The 34-year old signed a 12-month contract extension with the tier two champions earlier this week but admits he was contacted by the Whites prior to signing.

However, Harte says he could not leave Reading after helping the Berkshire club gain promotion to the Premier League.

"I got a phone call about 10 days ago saying they (Leeds) were interested," Harte told the Reading Post.

"I love it down here and these have been the best two years of my career. It would be silly to leave such a fantastic club like Reading. I'm definitely happy where I am.

"I don't say you can never go back as I'm sure that would be fine.

"But people would say back in those days that we had a fantastic team, playing Champions League football, and it would have been difficult."
