Reading owner Anton Zingarevich made the hardest decision of his life in sacking manager Brian McDermott.
The Russian businessman decided to sack McDermott with the Royals languishing in 19th spot on the Premier League table and he admitted to the club that it was a very difficult choice to make.
However, it was also revealed that Zingarevich and McDermott spoke on Monday to put a contingency in place which leaves Academy boss Eamonn Dolan in charge for this weekend's trip to Manchester United.
"Anton told the players it was the hardest decision of his life, thanking all of the staff for their contribution," read a statement on the club's official website.
"He and Brian remain on good terms after meeting in person on Monday.
"Eamonn held a series of meetings throughout the day in preparation for Manchester United, and he is scheduled to speak to the media later this week in the build-up to the game."
