Reading goalkeeper Alex McCarthy is eager to feature in the season run-in.

McCarthy has defied the odds following successful surgery on his injured shoulder and is now raring to go in the last seven games of Royals' fight against relegation.

He told the Reading Post: "To do my shoulder when the final whistle had gone was very frustrating. It was a complete freak injury.

"But the surgery went really well and the support around me was excellent. Hopefully I'll get a few games in between now and the end of the season. I'm fully fit now. I'm just waiting to get back in."
