Reading goalkeeper Alex McCarthy could be back before the end of the season.

The Daily Star says McCarthy could return before the end of the season after shoulder surgery on Tuesday.

McCarthy will be out for four months but has also been told there is a small chance he'll be fit enough to play again before May.

The 23-year-old feared his campaign was over after specialists insisted he needed an operation.

But the news was slightly better after the operation.
