Reading boss Brian McDermott is confident Brynjar Gunnarsson will pen a new contract.
The 36-year-old was offered a new deal at the Madejski Stadium and McDermott feels that Gunnarsson still has a role to play.
"He will definitely get something at this football club," said the Reading manager.
"My gut feeling is that he will be in the 25-man squad too. If you look at the numbers, right now we're up to 23.
"Players like Sean Morrison, Jordan Obita and Karl Sheppard don't count among that as they're under 21 - so there is a strong chance Bryn will be in."
