Reading boss Brian McDermott is waiting for the green light from owner Anton Zingarevich to buy in January.

McDermott has admitted his squad are being stretched by an injury crisis which forced him to make further changes at Sunderland last night.

But he is urging Zingarevich to help recruit new blood.

McDermott said: "We didn't invest in the summer. We all know January is a difficult month and it will be down to the owner to see where we're at.

"We're in such a strong position financially whatever happens. We want to get out of this and we have to do everything in our power to do that. My view is that we've got to do what we've got to do. We have a choice."
