Reading boss McDermott: Le Fondre remains our supersub

Reading boss Brian McDermott says Adam Le Fondre will remain on the bench today.

Reading boss Brian McDermott says Adam Le Fondre will remain on the bench today.

McDermott has tipped supersub Le Fondre for an England call-up, but will still start with Pavel Pogrebnyak up front on his own at home to Sunderland.

The manager said: “He’s probably one of the best-known people in the world at the moment.

“I would imagine that in the middle of nowhere they are talking about Adam Le Fondre. You don’t realise it because we live on this little island, it’s a small place.

“But Asia is big, Australia and America are also big. One of our scouts was in Argentina the other day watching some under-20s.

“He went to a bar and Reading v West Brom was on live — it’s incredible.

“I’m trying to find a way to get the best out of the group to get a result. We have a way of doing it and at the moment Alfie is coming off the bench.”
