Reading boss Brian McDermott doesn't expect to spend big in January.
Their billionaire Russian owner Anton Zingarevich took over the club in May but has not so far provided the funds for big transfers.
But McDermott says speculation that they will make up for that in January with a large budget are wrong.
The 51-year-old said: "There is a perception (that we have a lot to spend) which is wide of the mark. But we'll do the best that we can with the budget we've got.
"We had a budget in the summer and we used it, let's see what happens in January. But the most important thing is that any new players fit into the ethos and the spirit we've got here, that's what concerns me.
"But money-wise, who knows how much we'll have?"
