Reading boss Steve Coppell believes it is getting harder and harder for the smaller teams in the Premiership to stay up.
"Staying up is hard for teams like us, Wigan and Fulham. We can't compete financially year on year with the big boys.
"We will spend what we can, but each year we are losing ground and unless we get a massive financial injection, which we won't, then it is hard to compete.
"The gap is getting bigger, so if we were to do the same next year it would be a bigger achievement than this year.
"And to do so the year after that would be bigger still."
