Reading boss Coppell accepts Doyle frustration

Reading boss Steve Coppell can understand Kevin Doyle's frustration with his current winger's role.

He said: "I actually got my first England cap playing centre-forward although everyone remembers me as a right winger.

"I had almost a full season at centre-forward and I loved playing there, either with Stuart Pearson on Jimmy Greenhoff. One year I scored 11, which is alright. There you are always involved in the game but when you are traipsing up and down those boards on the right wing it can be a fairly thankless task.

"So I fully understand where he is coming from but in a team game the needs of the team come first. Good players can give a good account of themselves anywhere but now more and more players are specialists.

"He is playing for the team and we had more tempo than before and a little bit more balance. Before, players were getting balls in situations where you knew they were uncomfortable. It was more akin to square pegs in round holes."
