REACTION: Arsenal hat-trick hero Welbeck delighted to repay Wenger faith

Danny Welbeck was full of kind words for Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger after he helped his new club to a comfortable Champions League win on Wednesday night.

The 23-year old striker, who joined from Manchester United for £16million in the summer, scored a hat-trick to guide the Gunners to a 4-1 victory over Turkish side Galatasaray at the Emirates Stadium and he was over the moon to give the French tactician maximum points on his 18th anniversary with the north London club.

"He's shown a lot of faith in me and I'm delighted to pay him back tonight," the England international told Sky Sports 1.

"Just giving me the chance to play football up front in my preferred position, I'm going to do everything I can to make sure that he's happy."

Welbeck added: "I think we've set the benchmark now and we've really got to try to go on that. From now on we want to get the three points every single game.

"I'm obviously delighted to get the goals but I think the most important thing was that we got our three points on the board tonight.

"I'm playing up front, trying to score goals and getting into goalscoring opportunities and tonight it paid off, I got the three goals."

Welbeck netted in the 22nd, 30th and 52nd minutes with Alexis Sanchez also amongst the goals as Arsenal went second in Group D courtesy of their first win of the Champions League campaign.
