Former Roma coach Claudio Ranieri insists the club is always bigger than the player - including Francesco Totti.

Totti is set to play his final game for Roma on Sunday against Genoa, where victory would clinch automatic Champions League qualification.

“Has he actually said he's retiring? Everyone talked about this except him," Ranieri told Sky Sport Italia.

"We have to see how the game goes, but I don't think Spalletti will put him in from the start. Roma comes first, then Francesco."

On Luciano Spalletti's successor, Ranieri added: “If a Coach already knows Roma and Rome, then it will be an advantage, as he'll know how to operate."
