Ranieri unhappy with error-prone Roma in Super Cup defeat

AS Roma coach Claudio Ranieri was left disappointed with their Super Cup defeat to Inter Milan.

Mirko Vucinic's dismal backpass allowed Goran Pandev to cancel out John Arne Riise's opener, then Samuel Eto'o again pounced on defensive errors to score a brace.

"When we were 1-0 up, we gifted them the equaliser on the stroke of half-time," Ranieri said of the 3-1 result.

"It was a decent second half while David Pizarro could hold up, but he asked for the substitution because of that knee injury.

"I don't think the 3-1 scoreline is an accurate reflection."

Ranieri left Adriano on the bench, but when he came on for the final half-hour failed to make an impact.

"Adriano is working hard. It's not easy for him to adapt to new tactics and teammates. I expected a little more from him as I did everyone, even if overall I am generally satisfied.

"Inter were already tough opponents last season, but now they are even harder to catch unawares, as they remain concentrated and solid throughout the match. On top of that, they have some real champions up front."
