Roma boss Claudio Ranieri dropped defender Philippe Mexes for their victory over Fiorentina.

He said: "I have three excellent centre-backs, while Burdisso is having an excellent start to the season, so I chose him.

"Mexes is an important player, but if the others are in better shape then it's not a tragedy."
