Sone Aluko is delighted to hear that former Birmingham City teammate Fabrice Muamba is recovering well.

The Rangers winger played with the Bolton midfielder at St Andrew’s for a couple of seasons and was thrilled to hear that the 23-year old is making big steps to recovery after suffering cardiac arrest against Tottenham in the FA Cup quarter-final on Saturday.

However, Aluko did admit Muamba’s plight does put some aspects of his own life into the background.

"These moments really put the game, and life, in perspective," he told the club's official website.

"What we do is a blessing and even at the low points you can't forget that it isn't as bad as what could happen.

"I was with Fabrice for a couple of seasons at Birmingham and he's a top boy. Everyone who meets him genuinely has a lot of time for him."

He added: "I'm happy to hear that he's talking and starting to move so hopefully he recovers fully soon.

"His improvement is great news, for his family first and foremost, and for him of course. For his partner and his family, his health is the most important thing.

"For football in general it's good news because nobody wants to see a player that ill.

"Even though we have rivalries and competitiveness in the game, everyone has pulled together and thought 'this is more important than who you support'."
