Rangers' Whittaker may need groin surgery - McCoist

Rangers defender Steven Whittaker may require surgery to correct an ongoing groin injury according to manager Ally McCoist.

The 27-year old right-back aggravated the problem in training on Tuesday and may now be sent off for an operation so he can return for the second half of the season.

"As for Steven, he pulled up in training yesterday and has a problem around the groin area," McCoist said.

"We'll get him to a specialist as soon as possible and see what's what, but he might well need an op."
