Rangers veteran David Weir expects the first Old Firm clash of the year to be an 'interesting' affair at Ibrox. But the 40-year-old does not believe whoever comes out on top of the Glasgow encounters will necessarily go on to lift the title at the end of the season.
"I'm not going to say that they don't matter because they do," explained Weir. "But you could argue whether they dictate the outcome of the league based on what happened last year.
"Whatever the case you still want to win the game. It will be different, it is going to be interesting. It'll be the players that win the game, not the managers.
"The competition for places is always fierce and I have had that throughout my career.
"You want to win the battle to play because you are the better player not because you are the only option and there is no one else to replace you."
