Rangers want decision from wavering players

Rangers assistant manager Kenny McDowall has urged the club's players to decide whether they are committed to the new look Gers as they prepare for life in the third tier of Scottish football. Many of the club's stars have already left Ibrox to pursue their careers elsewhere.

"We need players in but we're not sure who's going to be leaving, if they are going to go at all," McDowall told Scotland's Sunday Mail.

"Listen, we can understand where they're coming from but it's wait and see.

"But it can't drag on to the end of the transfer window. The manager has had talks with the players but they have not come back to us with a decision.

"Edu is the exception - he wants to go for international reasons, with a World Cup looming. You can understand that. We'll just crack on. But if we know, we can act on it."

Whatever team Rangers are able to put on the field in the fourth tier will be expected to get results.

"We're under no illusions that we can go out with a youth team and win the Third Division," he added.

"We've got to respect the teams in the league and we understand it won't be easy.

"We got a taste of that against Brechin last weekend so we must get a balance right.

"We're hoping we can get promotion and then go again the next year. With that in mind, the players we're bringing in need to do the double dunt.

"Things might not be what we're used to but we are where we are and must adapt.

"There's a freshness because we're going to places we've not been to and playing teams we don't know.

"We'd rather be in the SPL - but we must be positive. It's a new adventure."
