Rangers veteran Weir: Everton will see best of McFadden

Rangers veteran David Weir feels Everton will see the best of James McFadden.

Weir - McFadden's mentor when he first moved south - is sure the 28-year-old has returned a better player.

He's also sure the man who helped shape him into a Scotland star first time around can do it all over again.

Weir told the Scottish Sun: "James will get his chance at Everton. He will play and he will develop. He will become even better.

"In many ways this will feel like coming home for James. He knows the manager, the players, the backroom staff, even the ladies who make the tea. He will settle in straight away and he'll feel comfortable in his surroundings again.

"People say you should never go back in football, but James going back to Everton just makes perfect sense for everyone concerned.

"He knows what will be expected of him and it will be up to him. Listen, I think James has a bit of unfinished business at Everton. In his first spell he was in the team and he was out of the team.

"He'd score one week and not play the next.

"James wants to do his best each and every time he plays and when he's not playing he's down and he's disappointed.

"Everybody knows the talent he has and I think he wants to go back and set the record straight in many respects."
