Rangers on verge of securing Almeria's Ortiz

Scottish champions are close to making their first new signing of the summer with Juan Manuel Ortiz on the verge of a move to Glasgow.

The 29-year old Spanish midfielder arrived at Ibrox last night to open talks about a potential three-year deal which would see him depart Segunda Division outfit Almeria.

'Gers director of football Gordon Smith said a deal for Ortiz was extremely likely to occur.

"Ortiz is a player we've been looking at for a while. We believe he has something to offer," he said.

"All being well we'll conclude talks with him and he'll become part of the squad."

Whilst Ortiz addeed: "I almost signed for Rangers two years ago. It has taken me two years to get here but I'm delighted I'm here at last. Hopefully the talks will go well tomorrow and I will sign.

"I have met Ally McCoist but I knew him anyway from Rangers' earlier interest.

"I have followed Rangers for those two years and it's great to be here now."
