Rangers turn to Portsmouth striker Nugent

Rangers have joined the interest in Portsmouth striker David Nugent.

The Scottish Sun says Gers have been told Tommy Smith will cost them £2million - and are ready to switch their focus to his Portsmouth strike partner Nugent instead.

Pompey administrator Andrew Andronikou values Smith at £2m and Gers aren't keen to spend so much on a 30-year-old.p> They are now ready to reignite their pursuit of long-time target Nugent, who is certain to quit.

Walter Smith tried to land the England hitman three years ago before he left Preston for Portsmouth in a £6m deal.

Nugent, 25, has endured a nightmare on the south coast and spent most of last season on loan at Burnley.
