Rangers Thomson faces long road back

Rangers midfielder Kevin Thompson is set for eight months on the sidelines after suffering major damage to the cruciate ligament in his left knee against Kilmarnock. "It was just a feeling of total devastation," Thomson said in the Daily Record. "The moment it happened, I knew immediately how serious it was and what the consequences would be.

"They carted me off to an ambulance room in a corner of the ground - I had never been in that room before and hopefully I'll never have to see it again.

"I just lay there knowing I was in serious trouble. I admit I probably cried more tears in half-an-hour inside that room at Rugby Park than I have in all my life. Gutted doesn't even come close."

It was the second cruciate ligament injury Thomson has endured during his career after hurting his right knee while at Hibernian as a 19-year-old.

The 24 year old said: "When it happened the first time, I was only a kid and very naive. I had no idea how serious this kind of injury is and no idea what to expect.

"But as soon as my knee went against Killie I knew exactly what was happening to me. I knew I was staring at a long time out and that hurt almost as badly as my knee."

Thomson, who visited a specialist in London on Wednesday, vowed to get over this latest setback.

He said: "A handful of people don't make a full recovery but I like those odds. I have no doubt in my mind I'll be back - just like I was the last time."
