Rangers owner Green calms talk of reported McCoist sacking

New Rangers owner Charles Green has made it vehemently clear that he is not about to sack manager Ally McCoist.

The Glasgow giants have had to reform as a newco after falling into liquidation during the week and there have been reports that Green wanted to oust McCoist as he went about forming a new club to be named 'The Rangers FC'.

But last night, Green insisted that he wants to retain McCoist and says he knew nothing of reports claiming he had a secret agenda which did not include the former 'Gers star striker.

"The issues I have read today about Ally are rubbish. If you ask me if I want him to continue - 100 per cent. Do I want Ally McCoist to be manager? Of course I do," said Green.

"I did speak to him today for about ten seconds.

"I asked him 'You and I need to have a chat about newspaper articles' and he said: 'I'm ready when you are'.

"When I do something I do it. There was a suggestion when I went to Sheffield United I stabbed Dave Bassett in the back. I didn't - I stabbed him in the front, in the chest. There is just no 'trying' in my vocabulary. you do it or you don't.

"If I was getting rid of Ally, I would say to him, face to face. I would say: 'Ally - I'm sacking you'. That has never happened.

"In fact, the second meeting I ever had with Ally was in the office here at Ibrox where I said to him: 'I'm quite happy to put a clause in my contract that says that the day you get sacked - because inevitably it would be me doing it - I leave too'.

"That was so that Ally knew and understood that it wouldn't help me one iota for him to fail and that he had my support.

"Ally will confirm that to you."
