Matt McKay says he cannot wait to get started with new club Rangers once his international duties are finished. The 28-year old is currently in Dammam with the Australian national team preparing for Tuesday evening's 2014 World Cup qualifier with Saudi Arabia before he flies to Glasgow to link up with his new teammates on Wednesday.

The former Brisbane Roar captain will then get ready for what could be his Scottish Premier League debut against Dundee United on Saturday and he admits he is excited about his new beginning.

"It was very frustrating that I wasn't able to get involved with the Rangers boys straight after I signed," he told the Daily Record.

"First, there was the delay with the work permit then there was the wait for the visa in Australia which seemed to go on forever.

"I would much rather have been in Scotland pushing for selection but by the time everything was sorted the preparation for the World Cup qualifiers was upon us.

"So it made for more sense to stay here rather than head to Scotland and come back for these games.

"Friday night (against Thailand) was a special night. I've lived in Brisbane most of my life and all my family and friends were there. It was a great way to say goodbye before heading to my new life in Glasgow.

"It's something I've dreamed of for a long time - to land a move to a big European club.

"I'll be ready to play as soon as I get to Scotland. I've been keeping fit and playing in the two games for Australia will help."
