Rangers left off SPL fixture list

Rangers have been left off the Scottish Premier League fixture list for the 2012/13 season.

The Glasgow club plummeted into liquidation last week and at this stage will not compete in Scotland’s top flight as they prepare for life as a newco under the name The Rangers FC.

‘Club 12’ which will be made up of either relegated Dunfermline Athletic of First Division runners-up Dundee has been placed on the fixture list with Rangers’ new owner Charles Green attempting to secure the club's status in the top flight.

But for now, the opening round of SPL matches for the 2012/13 season, which kicks off on Saturday August 4, looks something like this:

Reigning champions Celtic host Aberdeen
Manager less Heart of Midlothian are at home to St Johnstone
Kilmarnock wait to find out their actual opponent as they have been drawn with ‘Club 12’
Promoted Ross county begin at home against Motherwell
St Mirren take on Inverness Caledonian Thistle and on Sunday, Dundee United host Hibernian
