Rangers icon Smith: Ferguson desperate for Man Utd to bounce back

Rangers legend Walter Smith says Sir Alex Ferguson will be furious over the way Manchester United surrendered the title last season to Manchester City.

Former Old Trafford No.2 Smith reckons his old pal Sir Alex will have been plotting United's revenge mission all summer and will fight all the way to redress the balance.

Smith, 64, told the Daily Star Sunday: "Alex will have been hugely disappointed to miss out on the league title last season and the manner in which it was lost will also play a part in that disappointment.

"To miss out on the championship in the dying minutes of the last game of the season was cruel but that won't be something that is dwelt upon. All the efforts will be to get back on track."
