Rangers hoping to have McCulloch cleared for Old Firm clash

Rangers boss Ally McCoist says the club will appeal the red card received by Lee McCulloch on the weekend.

The 33-year old was sent off in the 24th minute of Saturday's 2-1 loss at St Mirren for allegedly elbowing Graham Carey but 'Gers feel it could be rescinded and will contest his impending ban which would make him available for Wednesday's Old Firm clash with Celtic.

"The red card against McCulloch changed the whole day for us," McCoist said.

"Lee assures me there was no malice in his challenge with the lad. He was simply trying to fend off an opponent.

"It was disappointing the way the lad went down."

However, Rangers can't contest the two yellows shown to defender Dorin Goian meaning McCoist will have to decide which centre-half to call in as his replacement.

"I'm annoyed by what happened to Goian. The situation we find ourselves in before playing Celtic isn't ideal but it's nothing we can't handle," he added.

"I've got (David) Weir, Kyle Bartley or Kirk Broadfoot to fall back on."
