Rangers great Weir wants Murray to take control

Former Rangers captain David Weir has his fingers crossed that Paul Murray is successful in his bid to take over the club.

The ex-Ibrox director and his Blue Knights consortium are jockeying for pole position with a couple of other interested groups to claim majority shareholdings from discredited chairman Craig Whyte and Weir, now coaching at Everton, feels it is Murray who would be the best option to get things back on track in Glasgow.

"I don't know the ins and outs of the various bids because a lot of them have been kept quiet but the Blue Knights have the best interests of the club at heart, there's absolutely no doubt about that," Weir said.

"They'd be a good one to take the club forward but I don't know the other ones.

"As long as those who get the chance to run the club run it properly - that s the main thing. "There's a great history at Rangers and we just want whoever gets it to create more history."
