Rangers are favourites to land Dundee United striker David Goodwillie.
The Sunday Mail says Gers have edged into pole position in the race to sign Goodwillie after Bristol City dropped their interest in the Dundee United and Scotland striker.
The English Championship club had been long-time admirers of the 22-year-old hitman, who scored 18 goals for the Tannadice outfit last season.
City manager Keith Millen travelled to Tayside twice during the last campaign to watch his target in action.
But Millen has now decided not to make a bid to try to lure him to Ashton Gate and said: "I did have a couple of trips to Scotland and David was one of the players I watched. I am looking to strengthen in certain positions but I won't be taking that one on any further."
