Rangers expected to deal-in Boyd for Ibrox return - Smith

Rangers could hand a return to Kris Boyd this winter according to former manager Walter Smith.

The 28-year former Ibrox ace this week quit Turkish club Eskisehirspor because of unpaid wages and is now a free agent available to be signed.

Smith feels Ally McCoist could go for the ex-Kilmarnock, Middlesbrough and Nottingham Forest man who has a brilliant goalscoring record for 'Gers.

"I'm sure if Kris is available he'll come into Rangers' thoughts," Smith said.

"He scored a lot of goals for Rangers and was a good player for us over the years.

"He left because he was offered a better deal in England at the time and then again in Turkey.

"From a Rangers point of view he would be an obvious one to look at.

"I don't know Boyd's situation. Rangers would need to find out his contractual situation before anybody could think about bringing him back.

"Then there is the level of money he has been paid - you are not going to be in a position where you can pay that."
