Rangers, Everton hero Steven backing Man City keeper Hart for England call

Former Everton and Rangers star Trevor Steven says England should go with Manchester City youngster Joe Hart in goal against Algeria.

The former England star, 46, feels the Italian has to address problems in goals, defence and attack if they are to win in Cape Town.

He told the Scottish Sun: "England had problems all over the pitch in their opener against the USA and I've been disappointed by the noises coming out of the camp since the game.

"They don't seem to have acknowledged how bad they were.

"Capello's selection was poor. For instance, he picked Ledley King on the right of central defence when he usually plays on the left for Tottenham.

"He should let Wayne Rooney play on his own up front, with Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard bombing forward in support, and I'd have Joe Hart in goal."

The big question for fans is whether Capello retains Robert Green in goals after his mistake.

But Gers' nine-in-a-row winner Steven added: "Unlike the others, Hart doesn't need confidence, he has it already."
