Rangers' Edu: American soccer asked too much of Freddy Adu

Rangers midfielder Maurice Edu has criticised US soccer for placing too much expectation on Freddy Adu. "America got carried away with the whole Freddy Adu thing. We tried to put the whole future of United States soccer on his shoulders," said USA international Edu.

"He was just a young kid trying to enjoy his football and he was expected to lead the country out of turmoil. Freddy has been under a lot of pressure, but he is only 19 and I still think he has a bright future."

Adu is currently playing on-loan at AS Monaco from parent club, Benfica.
