Rangers edge their way to SPL title

Rangers are still a point away from the title despite Sunday's 2-0 victory over Hearts at Ibrox. Gers boss Walter Smith though is prepared to bide his time before claiming the silverware.

He told BBC Scotland, "If it takes more than one game, as long as we do it, I don't care."

Rangers are away for their next three games and next weekend travel to Easter Road to face Hibs.

"Considering the difficulties we've had over the last 18 months, I think everyone involved with Rangers would be happy if we can just win it," said Smith.

"I don't think it is very often when you have a situation where I think with 10 games to go people were telling us we were going to win the league.

"To try to keep everyone motivated in those circumstances is difficult, but there is no motivation needed now.

"We know we have to go to Easter Road next week and at least get a draw, but we will go and try to win the game."

Smith admitted that his side had not performed well in the first half before prevailing against Hearts.

"We did not play well in the first half of the game at all," he said.

"Hearts were the better side in the first half and we did not get to grips with it.

"But it was better in the second half and, once we got the goal, with a bit more care, we could have added more goals to the scoreline."
