Rangers ease past St Johnstone in cup

Rangers progressed to a fifth-round meeting with Forfar courtesy of a 2-0 win at St Johnstone. An own-goal from Stuart McCaffrey and a late strike by Nacho Novo at McDiarmid Park was enough.

Rangers assistant manager Ally McCoist insists transfer speculation surrounding the club's top players had no effect on their Homecoming Scottish Cup performance.

McCoist insisted: "We are professionals, and our job is to be ready and play games of football.

"Nothing can distract us from that - as coaches, managers and players that's the one thing we have to prepare ourselves for.

"There was no problem at all. It was very pleasing to get through tonight because, if there was a potential banana-skin in this round, people were looking to McDiarmid Park tonight. We're delighted it didn't happen."
