Rangers, Derby legend McMinn: Commons can become Celtic star

Rangers and Derby County legend Ted McMinn believes Kris Commons can become a Celtic superstar if he can continue his good early form with his new club.

McMinn, who used to call all of the Rams' games for BBC Radio Derby, saw a bit of Commons during his time at Pride Park and can't believe how well he is performing in a Hoops shirt.

McMinn was of firm belief that the 27-year old midfielder, who has scored six goals in eight Celtic appearances since joining from Derby in January, can help lead Neil Lennon's men to glory.

"I don't know what they're feeding him up there. The impact he's made has been incredible," the 'Tin Man' told the Scottish Sun.

"I'm not sure one player makes a team. Kris doesn't make Celtic, but he has made a big impact.

"It's going to be very hard for both teams to go unbeaten until the end of the season. Celtic beat Rangers and then lost to Motherwell, so there will be plenty of twists and turns.

"But if Celtic keep Kris Commons fit, then they will score plenty of goals.

"His corners and set-pieces seem to cause havoc for everyone.

"I won't say he's going to win Celtic the league - but he'll certainly have a huge impact on it."

And what's more, Commons left Pride Park for a paltry £300,000 - a price that McMinn still cannot quite believe.

"Kris left Derby for £300,000, which is buttons for a player like him," he added.

"Why not tie him up to ensure they got a fee for him?

"Every club knows the threat is there for players to leave in their last year.

"Derby had plenty of time to sign Kris up. They're still getting pelters for letting him go early.

"There was only one loser in all that - and it certainly wasn't Kris or Celtic.

"He did everything right and got his rewards with a great move to Scotland."
