Rangers chief Green: I would have sacked Barcelona’s Messi for Sandaza comments

Rangers chief executive Charles Green claims he would have even sacked Lionel Messi for making private comments about the club.

Rangers chief executive Charles Green claims he would have even sacked Lionel Messi for making private comments about the club.

‘Gers got rid of Spanish striker Fran Sandaza recently after he was duped into making comments about a possible move to MLS to a person posing as an agent.

Sandaza, who admitted he signed with ‘Gers for the money, said he wanted the proposed shift to occur behind Rangers’ back but in the end it brought about his demise and Green said he would have taken the same action even if it the player in question was Barcelona ace Messi.

“If Lionel Messi was a Rangers player and he was recorded saying ‘I don’t want to play for Rangers, get me a contract, I’ll go and sign for another club, give it to me don’t go through the club,’ I’d sack Lionel Messi,” said Green.

“If anyone denigrates this club, if anyone has no respect for the badge, if anyone doesn’t want to work here, then go.

“We are going to make sure this club is not being reported for the wrong reasons or players stupid enough to make those comments to someone they’ve never met and make those disparaging remarks.

“It’s the comments he made that said he would happily leave this club, he didn’t want to be here and he came for the money.

“We want people here who want to play because it’s Rangers.”
