Rangers boss Smith may leave Naismith out of Europa League clash

Rangers striker Steve Naismith may be left out of tonight's Europa League clash with Sporting Lisbon. 'Gers boss Walter Smith is considering keeping the 24-year old out of the line-up for the Ibrox fixture as he has a hamstring strain and wants him fit for the Old Firm derby with Celtic on Sunday and does not want to risk him doing the problem more harm.

"Naismith's touch and go for the Euro game, we have a decision to make - do we risk him or not?" Smith said.

"It's not just because we play Celtic on the Sunday, but also because he has a hamstring strain, and we don't want to risk losing him for a period of time.

"There are decisions to be made because we also don't have Nikica Jelavic available for Europe.

"There is no way we will approach this by fielding a team we think might not win this game, just because we go to Celtic Park on Sunday.

"What if we ended up losing both games? You have to try to win the matches as they come.

"We will see how Naismith is. He is involved in the squad, it will be a debate if he takes part or not."
