Rangers boss Smith happy to hand Beasley new deal

Rangers boss Walter Smith is ready to hand DaMarcus Beasley a new contract. The USA international looked to be heading OUT of Ibrox just last month.

But after being given one last chance Beasley has salvaged his Gers career in spectacular style and now has his sights on the World Cup.

The former PSV Eindhoven player, 27, is out of contract in the summer but last night Smith revealed he wants to hand the winger a new deal.

The Gers boss said: "DaMarcus has come in and done very well in recent weeks. His problem in the main has been with injuries. He played very well for us at the start.

"He played all of the games when he came to us at first. But he picked up that terrible injury in Stuttgart and that set him back. It was a very slow recovery.

"But he's back now and he's shown how good a player he is. That's why I brought him in. We had three months from him before he got injured but he's now showing just how good a player he is.

"We'll need to see what he wants to do but given how well he is playing right now - and providing he continues to play like this - then of course you'd want him to stay."
