Rangers boss Smith hails players character after Euro win

Rangers boss Walter Smith was proud of his players after their Europa League victory over Sporting Lisbon.

Mo Edu struck in stoppage-time to stun Sporting Lisbon and seal a last-16 spot.

Smith said: "We've all taken some criticism but the one thing about this group is that they're gutsy.

"They showed real character out there.

"I looked at them the other day and they were just really DISGUSTED by the way they played in the Old Firm. I could tell by the way they were.

"But they showed that they could have a good reaction.

"Considering we have five boys on loan they have taken on board what it means to come in and play. They are trying as hard as anyone.

"But I looked at them and saw a gutsy group.

"They were really disappointed with themselves for the way they played against Celtic but came back from that."
