Rangers boss McCoist wants answers on potential trophy strip

Ally McCoist is bewildered as to how the authorities can decided that they will try and take nine Rangers titles if they are found guilty of paying stars with suspect contracts.

Earlier this summer, 'Gers were found guilty of having dual-contract EBTs (Employee Benefit Trust) as their main source of payment to a large majority of its players in a bid to avoid paying high amounts of tax.

Rangers have not yet been found guilty of the alleged undisclosed player payments but were dumped to Scotland's Third Division after falling into administration and it has emerged that the Scottish Premier League and Scottish Football Association already planned to strip them of five league titles and four Scottish Cups it has won in recent years.

The hearing regarding the payments will begin on November 13 and McCoist was keen to learn how the SPL and SFA could decide on taking the nine titles before the Ibrox club was even found guilty.

"That would be ideal. We'll just have to see what unfolds," he said after the weekend's 4-1 win over Montrose.

"I think it is strange to mention the punishment for the crime before anyone has been proven guilty or not guilty.

"You don't know if you're going to get 15 or 20 years if you commit a heinous crime.

"So I do think it's strange that people are wanting to strip us of titles, or at least are threatening to strip us of titles, before we have been found guilty of any alleged offence."
