Rangers manager Ally McCoist is hoping to identify his top transfer targets this winter so he can make new signings next year.

The Ibrox club has a transfer embargo placed on them until September 2013 but are allowed to negotiate with players who come out of contract at the end of the season regarding pre-contract agreements.

"There is no use making enquiries for players that we possibly couldn't afford or would be out of our reach in terms of finances," said McCoist.

"Until we have a reasonable idea of what our budget will be, that will give us a better idea of how well placed we are to go and chase these players.

"We've had an internal discussion, as you would expect us to do, and we are talking about players as every manager and coaching staff would do.

"But in terms of pursuing it and taking it to the next step, we will do it in the right manner."
