Rangers boss McCoist pessimistic about Villa's Cuellar

Rangers manager Ally McCoist says an Ibrox return for Carlos Cuellar is looking highly unlikely.

The Scottish champions have been on the trail of the Aston Villa defender this summer but the Premier League club's £3million valuation of the Spaniard is making life difficult for 'Gers.

McCoist says a transfer for Cuellar, who left Rangers in 2008, will more than likely not go ahead even though the 29-year old helped get the signing of former teammate Juan Manuel Ortiz across the line.

"I've made it clear that he's a player I would like to see back at Ibrox but he's under contract at Aston Villa and at this moment in time it looks like it might stay that way," McCoist told the club's official website.

"I think Carlos said some nice things about us to Juan which is obviously a help in terms of him signing. If he's as successful as Carlos and Nacho Novo then that would be great."
